The 15- and 30-mile (no lap) races start at 11 a.m. EDT near the Gipp Memorial on Tamarack Street and Lake Linden Avenue in Laurium. The Great Deer Chase racers lead out the Calumet Township Sesquicentennial parade.
The roll-out proceeds through downtown Laurium and Calumet and onto two-track at Swedetown. The short course is 15 miles and will have one aid station, and the long course is 30 miles in length and will have two aid stations. Both courses are one lap only, the terrain is varied and over 50% singletrack.
For Single Speeders
The long course features the official U.P. Single Speed Championship. To compete for this honor, you must compete in the long course and ride a single speed. To the top male and female winners go a trophy and bragging rights for an entire year. Second and third place male and female will receive other awards. There are no age divisions for this race – if Single Speed racers wish to compete in their age brackets then do not check the Single Speed category.
Racers can register to ride in the single speed category in the short race as well. The top three men and top three women finishers in the short course will be awarded prizes. There are no age divisions in the Single Speed Short Course category.
The Kids Race Course (Fawn Chase)
The kids races will start at 9:00 a.m. EDT with registration Friday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday morning between 7:30-8:30 a.m.
There is a 2.5-mile race for those youth ages 10-and-under and a 4-mile race for those 14-and-under. Parents are encouraged to ride with younger racers who may need a little encouragement. To include the youngest riders, the 40-yard un-timed Fawn Chase will follow the conclusion of the other kids’ races near the youth race finish line at 7th and Oak.
Please remember to yield to faster racers. Younger racers may compete in the 4-mile race but will be registered in the 10-and-under category for awards.
Awards, Other Events and Amenities
The awards ceremony for the main races will be at 2:30 pm on Oak Street in front of Cross Country Sports. Fawn Chase race awards will be held as soon as possible after the last youth racer has crossed the finish line on Oak street between 6th and 7th.
Calumet Township will be celebrating it’s 150th Anniversary during race weekend. Connect with us on social media to learn about family-friendly events and fun happening within walking distance from the race.
Changing rooms and showers are located in the basement of the Calumet Colosseum (Red Jacket Road near Fourth).
