For many years Marc Norton has played the role of Atlas and carried the weight and work of organizing the race on his shoulders. This year, the race is being organized by a committee of 13 people, each taking a significant role. Marc has handed over the directorship to Gail Neufeld so he can focus on the part he loves – making trails and being the assistant director with lots of good advice. The Great Deer Chase Committee has combined with the Copper Island Cross Country Ski Club to become the Swedetown Trails Club bringing a more cohesive approach to year-round recreation at the Swedetown Trails.
What does this mean for you? The committee approach will allow us to provide a relaxing and fun race, to promote the Keweenaw as a great place to vacation and mountain bike, to get more information out to the public about our race, to encourage more racers to ride, to bring more effort and funds into developing and maintaining more single track trail, and to get together on a monthly basis and have a few . . . laughs. So on behalf of the Great Deer Chase Committee, we would like to thank Marc for all the work he has done in building the race and we look forward to seeing you, the racers, at our great mountain bike celebration in August.
